Basically, I have a win2k box that I can login into - but once it laods the windows settings, and before the wallpaper shows, a blank screen and hour glass are stuck on the window.

I can ctrl-alt-del and then shutdown explorer.exe and restart explorer.exe and it loads fine, but it won't load normally without me manually loading explorer.exe

    Any ideas?

my xp machine was doing something similar awhile back (it just randomly started happening one day)

turned out it was adware called Look2Me

    a bitch to remove too

just a thought though...maybe download ad-aware, update, and run...other than that i can't think of anything off the top of my head

Yeah I too have seen that behaviour. See if you have the same problem with the network cable unplugged. Also, wait a good 5 minutes to see if the desktop does appear, if it does that's probably what it is.

yeah mine eventually booted...i left it setting on the loading personal settings box while i went to work...so give it some time

i ran bootvis and the computer wasn't doing anything during that hang time

but yeah, try the network cable (since thats what i read about a lot when trying to search for a fix for mine) first i guess
