Videos from the .22 Action Pistol and Rifle match we hosted at the club. I shot my GSG5 in Open rifle division and after the firing pin mod it ran %100. I did have to test fire it and discovered I put my ejector in incorrectly which in looking at the design is easy to do.

My fake aimpoint held up great and was more than sufficient, except that I sighted in at 10 yards. Which meant I was hitting high on the longer distances which really screwed me on the longer stages.

Other than that, this the first time I've shot a rifle in a full match and it was fun. Looking forward to getting more familiarized with it and shooting more matches.

  2. Thanks. I can't wait to do a .22 match again! As much as I complained about having to make separate head and chest shots in the open rifle class, I think that's actually a good way to do it. With stages like we have, only making 2 chest shots with a rifle would be too easy.

I've been debating that. I don't know, I like to make fast transitions and the 2 to the body 2 to the head really slowed things down. We should be shooting faster than everyone else in Open. That's just me, I have fun when I move and shoot fast.

It makes me wish I had shot a pistol or open pistol. There should be a difference in times with classes as there are obvious distinct classes. In IPSC the open guys shoot the targets as many times as anyone else, of course they have faster times, but that's the fun of shooting open. You should be smoking the field, but that's why we have seperate divisions.

The original intent was to make it a higher round count match while being able to accomodate the pistol shooters. Until folks can commit to buying more mags with their .22 pistols we can't do that. I would rather we stagger the distances for rifles maybe?

Again, this is just all me thinking out loud, open to ideas.

  5. I like the idea of staggering the distances. Also, and I know this isn't rooted in any IPSC or IDPA rule, but could we use some way to mark the targets so that the rifle guys had smaller targets than the pistol guys? We could take the standard IDPA target and make a stencil and spraypaint it onto the target. The pistol guys would be scored based on the standard target and the rifle guys would have to have their shots scored similarly, but any shots outside the painted area would count as misses. We'd have to use a color different from black though so people didn't get confused and think it was hard cover painted on.

  6. I said basically the same thing to Cel a few weeks ago, but he wanted to make it a higher round count match, so that's why we kept the 4 shots thing. I was concerned about the high round count because firing twice the rounds gives your gun twice the chances to jam. :noes:

    some idead we have done.

    • add some long range targets that are rifle only.
    • add a static steel plate that needs to be engaged from several postitions mixed in with the other targets. You can make this a rifle only target or make it rifle is 2 hits on static, pistol is one. This really boost round count without throwing in a lot of extra targetry.
    • build some taller baricades with low targets behind them. It's fun to do the trench clearing over the top with the rifle, or the one handed gangster executuion with the pistol.
    • do a strait charge line going down range with targets on right and left. Make it 2 runs best string for score. This way people really push the speed. You can make less targets on right side for pistol so they don't need to mag change. and more targets on the left side for rifle. Each gun shoots their side for their runs.
    • make big feild courses that promote a lot of shooting on the move. if you make good use of no shoots with a shoot target behind it at a 45 degree angle you can save yourself putting up a lot of extra baricades or vision barriers.
    • Make some two gun stages where you shoot a pistol and a rifle. Share the guns if people don't have enough equipment. tell everyone to bring an extra 100 rounds that run in their gun in case there is gun sharing, 22 lr ammo is inexpensive

God I wish someone around here would have such a match. That looks like a ton of fun and something that can be done a lot as its so cheap to shoot.

Actually, it was my XD gear mag pouch. GSG5 magazines are the same width as the XD magazines and they fit in perfect.

I got to the match, strapped it on and everyone was like "ahhh, dam, GAMER, lol" Everyone else had to resort using their back pocket. :mamoru:

  12. I still have to make my mag clamp for those tactical inc mags.

Damn that looks like fun. .22 rifle matches are fun, I really want to do one where I can move round a little. Let me know the next time you're running one of these matches and maybe I'll see if I can get a few friends to come up with me and split gas.

There were 6 shooters in Open Rifle, Market took 1st and I placed 3rd. Those longer shots killed me and I got some mikes (misses). I'm still not very familiar with the rifle, I'm a handgun shooter (3rd time ever shooting it). :mamoru:

Market is a proficient rifle shooter. :bigthumb:

The only thing I dont like about the GSG-5 is the trigger pull. Im seeing if I can get my uncle to mill me a new one with a reduced pull

Yup, I'm already looking at that prospect of improving the trigger on my GSG. Let me know if you find anything and I'll do the same.
