This is weird, I recently upgraded from a radeon x800 to an nvidia 8600gt.

Now, seemingly more often I will be in the middle of a game and all the sudden the monitor will simply go blank. I can still hear the game running in the background, and sometimes it will kick back on, but go black again.

I know it's not completely losing connection because my monitor doesn't show anything. Usually it flashes dvi/analog.

I've also been having a problem with the computer just completly shutting down, sometimes with a blue screen of death flashing by as it does. This sounded like overheating to me, or perhaps my external drive (which I had been running the game off) going bad.

Let me know if you have any ideas OT, thanks! :x:

have you tried reinstalling drivers? are there any utilities to make sure the Ati drivers are completely removed as well?

uninstall drivers, reboot, then re-install the new one
you can also use driver cleaner

    test your ram, use memtest86+

go to device manager and check for any conflicts

if you haven't done it yet,... disable automatic restart
system properties > advanced tab > startup and recovery settings > uncheck automatically restart
    what does the BSOD say?
