Why do home theater recievers have video inputs on them? Why wouldn't you just output your video from the source directly to the input on your tv/monitor? Any insight into this would be appreciated.

They are there so you can switch between devices. For example, if you have a dvd player and a HDTV box that both have component video outputs, but your tv only has one component video input, you can use the reciever to switch between the two.
