Ok, I think I'll be getting a bit of money this x-mas, so I'm planning on one of the two upgrades:
    Sapphire 256mb GDDR3 X800GT AGP

    or

    Sapphire 125mb GDDR3 X800GT PCI-express
    Asus® K8N4-E Deluxe, Socket 754, NVIDIA® nForce™4 4X Chipset w/ PCI Express x16

What should I go for do you guys think? I've got a AMD 3200+ socket 754, Asus K8V-SE, 2x512 Kingston (bad, I know) RAM, 256MB 9600XT.

Will a X800GT be completely useless in a year, and I shouldn't even bother upgrading to PCI-express for my next machine? Would my current rig with the X800GT still be viable for another 6 months to a year? I just want to play FPS, some strategy, medium quality doesn't really scare me.

going to a PCI express s754 motherboard in my opinion isn't worth it. You aren't going to get any more FPS out of a better motherboard. Just get the AGP one.

I have an ATi X800XL AGP and a 3200+ XP.

I love this config to death. My machine keeps up with my friends new 6800U/A64 machine no sweat.

I'd just get an AGP card, man. Get the X850 Pro. You can softmod it to an X850 XT PE, the fastest AGP card on the market.
