I bought a Geforce 4 TI4200 64mb card about a year and a half ago. I find with most games like Battlefield Vietnam, and Call of Duty, the game is sorta blocky at 1024x768. Its not blocky all the time only when there is some decent action or something. My system specs are P4 3.0ghz w/ HT and 1gig of dual channel ddr.

I'm open to either ATI or Nvidia. I want something good, but not top of the line. What can you guys recommend as far as handling decnet resolutions like 1024x768 or 1280x1024 without a problem? Would an ATI 9600 Pro handle this? What about the geforce 5700ultra? I've been out of the video card loop for awhile. Hope you guys can shed some light on the situation.

    Thanks

Do you like ATI overall. I only had one experience with them and it wasn't too good. The card didn't want to work properly with my pc but since then I've changed it around. Did you purchase your card online? If so where?

i bought the card from NCIX (http://www.ncix.com)

Ive used both ATI and nVidia and have had great experiences with both companies. I went ATI Radeon 9600xt as its benchmarks were the same as the GeForce FX 5700, and for the price, it was worth it (It was on sale for $215 CND).

158 is a good price yes, and don't worry about ati's previous track record. they no longer have the problems of the past. as of right now, they are the number one card to get. and actually, i'd prefer asus over just about anyone else. but it really doesn't matter THAT much, but make sure it comes with a coupon for half life 2

if your in canada, get a 9800 pro...future shop and best buy are selling them at 300$ + tax...

    same price as the 9600XT

    I just upgraded from a 9600XT to a 9800 pro and I notice a BIG difference....worth the extra $$

:nono: no way man, I was having a hard time running 1280*1024 on a certain game with everything high, now I can run it at 1600*1280, everything high

AA/AF set to auto, both times... IMO it is undoutably a worthwhile investment

I only paid $200 for my 9600xt 3 months ago. And why go for a 9800 Pro. Go for the 9800xt!

when I picked up my 9800 pro, what happened is that they told me they had one left in stock and they told me they would put it on the side, so I said ya, drove out there, as I got there the guy was selling it, asked for manager, explained situation, he said pick another card, told him I want the 9600XT (which is 299$ at futureshop as well), and when the 9800 pro's come in i'll do a swap, he said yep, and thats what I did...so ya thats how I know cause I actually tested both with the same system a matter of an hour apart

For BFV, gotta get the best you can afford. I have a 9600 AIW, just a little faster than the 9600 pro, and it is not enough card to run high quality @ 1024x768... I have had a few issues getting ATI drivers to load in the past, but not on this card. nVidia has gone way downhill lately, releasing bad drivers and such...

toms says it all... and no the 5700 doesnt really compare to the 9600xt unless ur talkin about the ultra version, which is considerably more expensive. I got my 9600xt and havent met anything that can make it stutter thus far.
