I need some software to analyze some videos. I am trying to measure the change in area of a region through time. This does not have to be real time, but post recording. Not sure what my options are. Here is an example clip.

Background: I study chromatophores (the things changing shape in the video) in cuttlefish. These organs are responsible for their camouflage abilities. We study how they are controlled, their development and developmental rules, and behavioral uses. I would really appreciate your help!

Be more specific. What are you measuring? Count? Size? Speed? Area?

    Do you know programming?

Only thing I can think of to get started would be get the video in AVI format. (Download and convert from YouTube if necessary)
Use Image Grabber II to get jpg images at time intervals
Write some software to measure the amount of a specific color range and compare to other frames.

Oh, I already have the AVIs--I recorded the footage myself. This is for academic research purposes and was wondering if there was any programs out there already...
As far as programming is concerned, uh I can't do that stuff.
