Vid of my first gi fight, including proof of the failed Sylva flying armbar. Props to Title MMA for the Everlast Judo gi...that was stiff as fuck lol.

    [y]9EhfQmKA0VY[/y]

The guy posted vids of all his fights at NAGA. I can finally figure out what it would take to beat him.

Anyone want to donate a decent A2 BJJ gi to me? :x:

I look like a fucking kite in whatever I have lol :o

When he jumped guard and pulled you to the ground, you kind of just hugged on to him. You kind of stand up with bad posture and then start to push down on his leg with one hand. Make your good posture, keep your head up, get your grips, then work your preferred pass. After you got swept it was kind of all down hill from there for you.

One of the things I think will help you the most will be more experience. You looked rushed in there and being a little more calm and controlled goes a long way I find.

Just keep workin at it. Everyone was a noobie at once (or in my case... still is :()

Get a good base and posture in Gi.....It will help a lot....Make sure to stick a knee in his ass and go to a 12 - 3 or 12 - 9 position and lean posture up while pushing his hip down......Then pass in the method most comfortable to you.....

How long have you been training in formal BJJ now? I think you could have utilized the gi a bit more. Instead of using your hand to lift under his leg or ankle actually grip the pants and control where he moves his leg. I also agree with the calming down a bit, I did however love that you tried a flying armbar  Good job on getting back into guard from having your back taken. Plus it's only your first tournament and that guy looked really comfortable out there.

    Righto heres my advice:

First sweep he got on you was due to your bad posture, do not lean over your opponent to stack him, especially when you are as light as you are. Stay on your knees and get one knee in his tailbone. Next class, ask your coach how to posture up properly, it is difficult to explain over the internet. Something else that might help you is your arm placement, ideally you should be grabbing his pants with a knee in his tailbone pushing out.

When he swept you and had you in mount, your arm positioning was totally wrong, i wish there was a nicer way to say it, but thats not what you should be doing. You should try and keep him close towards you and using both your arms to control one of his arms to upa out of it. And combine that upa with your basic hip escape.

Your arms should basically have the position of elbows on your chest/stomach with your arms out... kinda like a trex has its arms, this will prevent armbars and that kind of shit.

I feel you kind of paniced and you gave him your back to easily. Id rather have someone mounting me than them having my back... And as soon as he got that collar, you were in a shit spot, i guess you just need to train more in gi...

Finally you got armbarred again to bad posture.

Just work on your basic shit, and you will do better next time.

I would definitely work on your posture... you were way too buck wild in the beginning and gave him that sweep.

position before submission.....learn three collar chokes and practice them over and over and over.....I am sure you already have the armbar and triangle down......rinse and repeat.....

It's also pretty obvious I had no idea how to utilize the gi. Thanks for the advise guys. I will be working on my posture, I see what you guys mean after watching the vid over and over again. I always roll with a gi now, even during no-gi classes. My team is cool with it since they know I don't have a lot of time to train till school is over.

I did do a sick sweep towards the end when I was mounted. I'm trying to recreate it in the gym. Looks like I scooped the other guys legs with my own then used that break in base to sweep.

I've been playing around with the x-guard sweep for the past few nights, to see if it's something I could use in my game.

Nah mate, stick with close guard, get a decent closed guard game before you open your guard... Just cause Marcelo Garcia does something doesn't mean you have to. Master the basics first, i mean look at roger gracie, he beats everyone with the fucking basics. Once you have them down pat (you should just about be getting your blue) you can start fiddling with some different guard types.

No offense or anything but you need to work more on your basics before you start getting into the advanced stuff....

Just from that video, you have a lot to learn before you even touch open guard. Im not taking a shot at you, its just my opinion from what i see.
