It's funny, but let's not pretend the Stingers didn't also have a habit of doing that.
I was waiting for a white flag on a stick to pop out of the launch tube. That was close enough, though.
That has got to be the scariest moment of anyone's life.
Stingers are MANPADS through, not anti-tank missiles.

Ahhhhh the French, even their missiles refuse to fight.
I've fired six of them myself and seen over 100 fired and we never had one do anything that bad. The launch motors on the expired ones either worked perfectly or didn't work at all. Usually when we had a malfunction it was the flight motor not engaging and it would just drop to the ground after about 50 feet. All the problems were with ones that were at least 16 years old, we never had a malfunction from the "in service" missiles.
