I'm gonna be running a 9800 Pro, I'm probably never going to overclock it, so is using anything other than the stock heatsink/fan necessary?

that one's fine for most use. the artic mods vga cooler is a nice addition because it has a blower fan that takes up the first pci slot but has a duct for the air right out the back of the case, so one of those should drop your case temp a fair bit because the heat from the card is not getting released into the case.
