    FUCK. That's awesome!

I am guessing it is due to all the power cleaning i have been doing, we do a lot of lateral squats and lunges also. I dont really know what I have been doing to help it.

So many people say so many things help your vert I have just kinda stopped listening and not worried about it bc i knew the stronger i got the high my vert would go

being taller has a higher probability of having genetically well structured calves which are important in VJ. people with high cut calves (the insertion is near the knee, and the achilles tendon is very long) generally have better jumping ability than someone with a very short achilles tendon.

think about kangaroos and their long ass achilles, stores alot of potential energy (tension).

That's me, except I've always had really weak thighs, so my vertical has always sucked. Working on that though :o

Dunking also has a lot to do with your ability to hold onto the ball so I am surprised the Cap'n of Crunk had problems.

    i'm 6'2'' and i can't dunk.

It's true asians don't have the necessary fast twitch muscle fibers to accomplish what blacks can do.

    lol..but there's truth to that.

    I'm a 5'8" 175-lb asian. Reach is 85", I can touch 127" so it's about 37"

And yes, I've been stuck on that for 6 months now - and I've got a pretty dedicated routine to help my vertical (plyometrics, olympic lifting, sprints, yoga, stretching, etc)

My squat and dead is relatively weak though so if I get those up in the mid 300s to low 400s, I think i should gain 2-3" more. Furthermore, if I clamp down on diet and lose 10 lbs, I should be able to dunk :)

BTW Ohio_U_TE - good job!! keep it up!!

actually it has far more to do with the percentage of fast-twitch muscle fiber you are made up of, the higher the better for explosive things like jumping, and the percentage of the muscle you are able to recruit naturally, some people can recruit higher percentages of their muscle fiber due to their genetic make up, both these things can be increased with training

tests they give for youths to see if they will be good at explose sports are the hand grip test, (those that can recruit high percentages of their muscle naturally will be able to create a grip pressure of much much more than their peers) and the standing long jump

actually they do have the fast twitch muscle fibers, which isn't attributed soley to genetics, you can increase the percentage of fast twitch muscle fibers you have through training

it is more because blacks have the physical attributes that are more conducive to sprinting, long legs (long hamstrings), long achilles tendon, tall, light; all this enables them to have long stride length (and absorb energy most efficiently) which is just as crucial as stride frequency where only fast twitch muscle is relevant.

on the other hand, asian tend to be shorter with a shorter achilles etc, which makes them better for weightlifting for instance which is more dependent on the fast twitch muscle fiber than sprinting

take for example Xiang Liu of China who has the world record in the 110 high hurdles, he is tall and lanky, having similar physical attributes to the successful black sprinters, he is simply an exception in China compared to the average in Africa
