If true then he's the exception, not the rule. My brother is a vegetarian and all into yoga and stuff and all his vegan friends are pasty little shits that always look all sickly. I'd sooner die of a heart attack than live that kind of life.
the shear volume of plant matter that would need to consume would be ridiculous.
Like they say in the article, it depends on HOW you're eating vegan.
A cup of lentils gets you 50 grams of protein.
Edit: Bet he eats a lot of peanut butter too.
heh look at bulls, horses, etc ... vegan and all power muscle
God lentils are so nice.
I dreamt about them last night.
I think their physiology might be a tad different than ours.
NEWSFLASH: THEY ARE FUCKING HERBIVORES, WE ARE OMNIVORES
horses are swole and don't lift weights so I'm going to stop going to the gym
sure, but not a complete protein..
so you're better off having a varied sources of beans/peas/nuts/grains.
a buddy i was training with this spring is trying to bulk and vegan. Started off at a very lean, but toned 150. At first I doubted that he could do it, but he's been big before.
He looks great at 165-170 and about 10%, but he seems to be plateauing there.
As it's been mentioned, he requires to eat soooo much more food to bulk. You're getting more fiber, and he get's much easi
word, two different metabolic systems.
comparing apples to oranges... or humans to horses
Gear and lentils.
Much less protein needed to preserve muscle than it is needed to build. He already had a solid base built from years of eating meat and lifting. Also, I read an article about him (think it was in Wall Street Journal ) about a year ago when he first became a vegetarian. He was still eating fish, eggs and protein shakes. He probably still supplements his protein intake with soy powder. It's possible to get enough protein without eating meat but it is difficult and you really have to put some effort into it.
That said I like the way beef taste and will continue to eat it.
I am pretty sure our teeth are more suited to be herbivores than omnivores. You'll notice a lion in the jungle doesn't need a steak knife.
that being said, i'll keep eating meat thanks.
Oh shit, all those fucking body builders eating chicken breast, steak, and whey derived from milk 6 times per day where all wrong! They should have just eaten some vegitarian chili and a strawberry smoothie.
From their "protein myth" page http://planetgreen.discovery.com/food-health/green-glossary-protein-myth.html
"In the US, the typical adult ingests 100 grams of protein every day—roughly four to five times the amount recommended by scientists not affiliated with meat and dairy corporations."
Wow you guys, all of us have been eating 200gs of protien, I guess 20 would have done it.
"There is little evidence that muscular activity increases the need for protein."
Fuck, do you guys realize how much money I've wasted on whey when I could just be eating salad to get brolly?
"An adult male on a fast only puts out 4.32 grams of urinary nitrogen per day," says William Harris, M.D. author of The Scientific Basis for Vegetarianism. "Each gram represents 6.25 grams of broken down protein, so under conditions in which some protein is actually being catabolized and used for fuel, only about 4.32 x 6.25 = 27 grams/day are actually needed." Twenty-seven grams.
So what they're saying is that when you are starving and your body is trying to preserve itself you only need 27 grams of protein. I'm sure they included the protien/calories used during digestion, so we can all sleep comfortably knowing that we'll be ok after a peanut butter sandwich and some deadlifts.
i think it's important to discern that they are referring to the "average american", not bodybuilders. i know that in most cultures around the world, meat is generally considered more of a luxury, not the staple. so they may not be entirely wrong when they say people don't need that much protein.
nevertheless, i still think that's a retarded fucking article
"There is little evidence that muscular activity increases the need for protein." I think this means athletes and body builders through, which makes it even more retarded.
The point of much of the poorly calculated and interpreted research they refer to is that it only takes 20-30 or so grams of protein to not die. This is like saying the human body doesn't need to eat more than once per week to not die, so only eat on Saturday.
I understand the moral dilemma that some people have with eating meat now that there are alternatives to it that can sustain human life... but it won't be a good quality life because meat is good for your health. Just accept what you are.
does he put food coloring in his test so he "stays green?"
i don't need one either if i eat with my hands
what else would I have meant?
bro, bite into a nice big piece of raw meat, your teeth will demolish that shit with no problem.
