It's been speculated for some time that sales of Acura's luxo-barge offerings may be hindered by the automaker's lack of offering V8 power. According to Automotive News, this problem may be remedied soon.

In an interview with Honda's president of R&D in the States, Hirohide Ikeno, he hinted that a new direction for Acura powerplants would debut at the upcoming Detroit auto show in January.

It's already been confirmed that the new NSX, due in 2009, will likely get a mid-ship V10, drawing credibility from Honda's 8- and 12-cyclinder racing mills. That kind of power is necessary in the supercar market and a V8 option is a necessity if an automaker hopes to compete with other luxury sedans.

Although development of the V8 will be carried out by Acura's parent company, Honda, don't expect a V8 option in the next Civic.

    fucking finally

it's about time. it was predicted well beforethe new rl came out that it wouldn't be successful because the competition has a v8 while the rl obviously does not.

and to those saying Honda V8 will be torqueless

lets look at their V6 offerings in relation to competition

    A4 3.2 Torque: 243 ft-lbs.
    300 3.5 Torque: 250 ft-lbs.
    300 2.7 Torque: 190 ft-lbs.
    ES350 3.5 Torque: 254 ft-lbs.
    TL 3.5 Torque: 256 ft-lbs.
    Accord 3.0 Torque: 211 ft-lbs.
    Mustang 4.0 Torque: 240 ft-lbs.

Notice how the TL has more torque than Mustang....while being .5L less?

The only reason hondas are called torqueless now, is because they are using smaller engines

precisely, honda/acuras had no problem selling cars with smaller engines because people still buy them by the hundreds.

The only reason for the V8, is because there is a lot more emphasis now towards engine size among luxury car makers.

    now yes...earlier? no
when people are shopping at luxury sedans, power alone isn't the only thing that sells.

Cool, should be interesting to see what kind of power it makes.

Clearly power isn't the only point but it comes with the prestige of owning a lux-sedan, having the v8. For instance, I have a client who bought an M45 over an RL because the RL "didn't have a v8." :dunno:

probably 350hp, because more than that isn't necessary in a large sedan to be competitive

You forgot to point out something

    @ WHAT MOTHERFUCKING RPM???

I'm going to try to see when these numbers kick in, because I'm sure(considering a honda motor) these numbers require VTEC which is sure 5500 rpm and higher(maybe 7k or so like the s2000 i believe). :dunno:
