How old do you have to be to use a pistol at a shooting range. I turn 21 in 56 days and would like to begin collecting guns and taking them to the range. There is a range near my house that rents guns and I would like to begin getting a feel for what I like so that I can get one as soon as it is legal for me to. Do you have to be 21 to fire a gun or just own one? I live in WI if this helps anybody. Please let me know ASAP. I would like to go right after work if at all possible.

I take my little brother to the range all the time, last time he rented a 1911 with no problems. He's 17.

you need to ask the particular range you want to rent from if you can rent. if you can't, have a friend who is over 21 go with you and rent it and you can shoot it. you have to be 21 only to own a pistol.

I can tell you in Michigan, you have to be 21 to even handle a gun at the gun shop

It all depends on the range, I went shooting my pistol at the local range when I was 18, but I was with someone that was older than 21.

first time i shot a gun was this summer, i'm still 20. in one day, i shot a .22 rifle, .44 and .357 magnums, a glock, a sig, a few .22 pistols, a winchester 30-30, a scout m1a (i think that's what it was, this thing was badass), ar15 (only 2 rounds :hs: ). i'm sure there was more, but that was an exciting day for me :bigthumb:

I go to a local range and I am only 20, been going for about 2 years. I bring my own guns (no renting) but they still let me use their range with no problems.

You have to be 21 to own a handgun but you can fire one as long as you have someone who is 21 or older with you. Legally that is.

i was stationed in virgina, and couldn't rent a gun til i was 21. showed the guy the military id and asked WTF? the guy agreed that it sucks, but its the law. i could however buy the 9mm ammo, but only if i used it for the ruger carbine they had. stupid laws

    Wisconsin state law on possession:
It appears anybody over 16 is able to possess and control firearms the same as anybody over 21.
