The best media players I have used:
VLC (VideoLan Player) - This is probably the best Media player out there although it may lag on older computers (even though they claim it takes minimal CPU power) . It plays all media formats for the anime's you download. It eliminates the need for codecs!
    More Information - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html
    Download - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

BS Player - With the correct, this media player plays the files that don't work with VLC. I have never had problems with audio/video synch with this player. You can take screenshots without going through the hassle of changing a bunch of settings as with other media players. (Just press P!)

    Zoom Media Player -
    Download - http://www.inmatrix.com/files/zoomplayer_download.shtml
    Information - http://www.inmatrix.com/

WinAmp - The best music player available today. It is easily customizable and good for keeping track of your music. It is user-friendly and looks much better than any other media player. (Yes, I have used skins and I still like WinAmp the best)
    Information - http://winamp.com
    Download - http://winamp.com/player/

Codecs - http://www.free-codecs.com/ (listed at the left hand side)
Full list of codecs still to come. The basic ones you need for playing anime are the Matroska Pack and an Ogg direct show filter.

The Combined Community Codec Pack - This includes all the codecs you will need to play your anime. Unlike some of the individual codecs, the ones included in this pack have never failed me yet. :noes: I don't think there is any adware or spyware in this codec pack. (K-Lite has spyware :o) It includes Media Player Classic and Zoom Player as well. The settigs for all the formats are together which makes it a lot easier to use.

Just thought it would be a useful post. :mamoru:

    WMP 10 lol

I would use BS player but I don't have professional and the free one requires you to download a internet toolbar :greddy:

    Zoomplayer is ok, I guess.

I should try VLC but WMP 10 is pretty good except for shitty keyboard shortcuts.

    mpc + CCCP FTW :wiggle:

i've found that VLC skipped frames when doing .mkv files. it uses 30,000 mem hardly 7% on my cpu, nothing compared to what stuipd firefox gobbles up.
