Are these pretty easy to pick up and install into your system if your interested in building a Frankestien unit?

Where exactly could you locate used hard drives at? My HD crashed on my older system and I just want to play around with my options.

don't buy a used hard drive. get a new hard drive for a little more money, they aren't that expensive, + a warranty

anyone buying it is a retard, imo.

Stupid to buy a used hdd (unless at a signifigantly reduced rate and still in warranty for immediate RMA).

    Otherwise, buy new.

I have never heard of anyone buying a used HDD... Seems like a very bad idea.

I dont see the problem with buying a used HDD, it is cheaper and more than likely still under warranty.

Hard drives aren't very expensive to begin with. It's like buying a used 2 liter of Coke.

other than ebay/craigslist/pc forums i'm not sure where you can find used hdd's for consumers.

we buy/get a few hundred used hdd's every year, to keep the drives in sync on our old old boxes/arrays/sans. but this is usually directly through our vendors and a few resellers.

expected failure rate depending on the brand, made in ?, hours of usage...

if you just need a cheap hdd to use for home, just keep an eye out for deals on slickdeals.net and fatwallet.com
