    Did this today.

Thank christ the filter took ALL of the damage. :bowdown:I had my bag in the back seat of my car and while getting everything out for an e-shoot today I had forgotten to zip up the compartment of my bag and the lens flew out as I picked up the bag. I had to wait to get home to get the filter off because the threads were crimped from the impact.

The last time something like this happened I had my hood on and that saved the lens also. This thing has taken a beating.

Seriously. The rush of relief that whooshed through my body was fantastic. I knew I had insurance anyway - so I forgot about it until the e-shoot was over. Must keep a going. I'm just so glad it was not my 85 1.2L II. I would have cried then. The couple was like "OH MY GOD!" I said "Don't worry about it, let's do this."

the biggest problem there is that you're holding a canon lens. that's a problem

I've done this as well, except my whole bag fell and the filter took the hit.

So apparently my lens filter can be damaged, but if the lens fell without a filter and those filter threads on the lens were damaged, does not mean the lens is damaged?

Same thing happened to me. 70-200 2.8 IS fell from by backpack right on the front element. I had a B+W filter on it and it took all the damage.

I still had to send it in to canon Irvine since the zoom and focus rings were stiff.
