I have a problem with my USB printer. The USB (none of them) ports will not recognize it ( I am using Windows XP Home). The USB ports seem to recognize anything else I plug into them except the printer. It Is a Lexmark 4200. I know it's not the printer. I tested it on another computer and the USB port found it as soon as I plugged it in.

Did you try swapping out the USB cable?

When you first tried to set it up, did you install the drivers before you plugged in the USB cable??

Try completely removing the installed drivers if any and then trying again installing the driver first.

When asking a technical support question, it is generally polite to post a progress report from time to time.

3 posts a day in over 5 years ain't bad. That's plenty of time to graduate school and get a carear. Not everyone can spend so much time on OT. He's 25 man. He signed up when he was two years into college. It just shows he has a life.

I've had this happen. We drop shipped a printer to one of our stores and an over zealous user (who knows just enogh to be dangerous) plugged it in and turned it on before installing the drivers. For whatever reason XP wouldn't correctly install it later.

I left it plugged in over night and XP eventually installed the drivers correctly. Very odd.
