    Question for you guys...

I work at a college, and plug in 10-15 different USB drives into my computer every day...

I'm having a problem lately where these drives won't select an open drive letter, and instead will try to claim the same letter as one of my mapped network drives...

I can go into Computer Management and manually assign a drive letter, which does work, but is a serious pain in the ass!

What do I have to do to tell my computer to just assign everything that gets plugged in an open drive letter???

    thanks!

It should be doing it on it's own as far as I know. My work cpu gets everything from USB, Memory stick, SD, etc stuck in to it and it goes to an open letter drive each time........

interesting problem. I have always had the removeable drives go to the open letter by default.

    Good luck. In for answer

We have that issue here at work, tries to take F, F is a novell share ... what I started doing was map it to an empty folder on the C drive, right now I have c:\kingston and c:\sandisk, once I set it on my computer they stay that way, no fiddling with drive letters anymore. If you use that right click, send to option you'll have to manually build that into the registry. I don't use it that much so I didn't but some of the other guys here do ...

    retorq,

thats a great idea, except that all of these drives come from students at the school who's work I review for their portfolio... I typically only see each drive once, maybe twice....

But it does even do this with MY drives, so i'll definitely try that with them...

    Sexual Vanilla - you ROCK!

    That worked perfectly! Thanks!

Makes you wonder Windows doesn't do this natively.
