Speaking to a source, former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber has voiced his displeasure regarding what he’s currently being paid. When asked if he felt the difference in payscale between the UFC and WEC was fair, Faber responded by saying, “No, I definitely don’t think it’s a fair scale. The biggest difference and hardest thing for me to communicate with Zuffa is they say that this is a different company than the UFC.”
Faber did offer a couple of suggestions to improve the WEC’s payscale saying, “We need to do pay-per-view shows, that’s how everybody’s getting paid. If I was the one making those calls, maybe I would do that [create a featherweight division in the UFC]. I can certainly make a case for that but I’m at the will of those guys right now and they hold the ball in their court and I’m just gonna try and play.”

Faber went on to say, “I had a meeting with Dana [White] and Lorenzo [Fertitta] and they were explaining that to me and I was like, ‘well you guys could always talk to the owners, see if maybe they could pull some strings.

“I mean I’ve done my part. I’ve done countless interviews and have gone above and beyond with the PR and stuff like that so hopefully we’ll get appreciated.”

The former champion only has one fight left on his contract and is coming off of his second loss to current champ, Mike Brown. Faber’s hoping that Zuffa has heard his concern loud and clear saying, “I got my message across and they’re reasonable people, so we’ll see what happens.”

UFC 100 would have been the perfect time to showcase him and Torres but Versus would probably get mad

Only because they just happen to be there. Most MMA fans i know don't even know that there is a division below light weight, much less one below that. The UFC should start promoting faces to go along with the divisions in their PPVs to get the ball rolling.

People would easily, its all about marketing.

Look at boxing right now, look at the people who are bringing in the numbers like Oscar, Mayweather Jr., Pacquiao, etc.

I think watching boxing at the lower weight classes is a lot different from mma.

Dude lighter weights are where the speed and stamina is at. Not very many knock out artists at that weight, but they are amazing to watch. It'd also allow a lot of smaller fighters to finally go at a weight they should be at and a lot of Asian fighters as well.

Fuck yeah I'd support that and I don't see why there isn't already a featherweight.

You're wrong here. Fuck I love watching BJJ tournaments with smaller weight classes also. They are usually able to preform a lot more and the transitions and reversals blow my mind. Lighter weights in MMA also are fast paced.

maybe he should try and join strikeforce then. I also think WEC payouts are skimpy as hell.

The reason people watch the lighter weight classes are thanks to those names, and that is exactly my point. Joe Schmo MMA doesn't know who Urijah Faber, MTB, Kid Yamamoto, or who Miguel Torres are. Maybe if they were showcased in a UFC PPV with some highlight reel knock outs instead of one of the dozen miscellaneous promotional footages, they can market it more effectively toward a PPV paying audience.

I saw his last fight live, he gained more respect in a loss in any fighter i ever saw, he could tell his hand broke, and he kept on fighting till the end.

I probably phrased that wrong. What I meant was watching an Oscar, Mayweather and Pacman fight is not the same as watching Faber or Torress fight, from a general public perspective. They are three of the best boxers of this generation, even if you know absolutely nothing about boxing when you see them fight you can see their high skill level. I do not see that with a Faber or Torres or Brown, they are good but more a product of lacking competition than anything else. It's harder to market a sport(or a weight division) when you don't have that premier athlete that is objectively 'great'.

There are 4 OP commenting on my statement, not me particularly you fucking loser. Quit trying to make a name of yourself by "owning" me you pathetic fuck tard and read the rest of my posts. It is obvious my state of mind is that i enjoy the light weight classes, but i think that it making a significant sum via PPV is unrealistic.

I don't even know who the fuck you are, what you do, what you train in, who you support.
