You can probably get an intel core2duo for that price which will outperform the opteron. I'm not a fan of plesk either. :o

Processor: Dual Xeon E5310 Quad Core (Clovertown)
    Memory: 4GB DDR2 PC5300
    Hd1: 160GB 7200RPM SATA / 8MB Cache
    Hd2: 160GB 7200RPM SATA / 8MB Cache
RemoteBackup: 50GB Remote Backup (+Offsite Backup)
    OS: Linux - CentOS 4
    Bandwidth: 4.8TB on 100mb/s

    $309/month

these are temp specs for starting, once the app actually starts generating traffic and money the plan is to turn this into an image server(after increasing image space) and get a very beefy DB server

i bet that 9/10 of these aren't real "dedicated" either... just VMs on a box used by 20-30 users. gotta love marketing.

if you get one from a reseller sure might be possible....but if your host runs its own datacenter(rackspace/liquidweb) then I'd trust them

I think I have been with them almost a year.

The phone rang three times once before they picked it up. They are pretty sharp.

That reminds me of 1and1 when i had my dedicated server with them for almost a year.

:ugh: Almost half of the time, my calls were directed to some fag support in a 3rd-world country.

I had about 5-10 questions when I was originally setting shit up and they were very good, and I didnt even bother using phone support. I just used email and always got an answer in an hour or two.

I could care less about what the floor looks like that my server is sitting on :hsugh:

They're never down and host many gaming servers because of their awesome latency. When I hosted a TF2 server I almost shit my pants when I went to sort the servers by lowest ping and saw mine on top.

And it makes basically no difference, we switched to VMs a while back for a couple of our servers we originally specced them identical to the boxs they were moved from and they performed as well and in the case of a DB server it actually improved considerably.

Even if you put just one virtual machine per physical box, performance is never as good because you have the extra layer of virtualization software that everything has to go through.

So I have difficulty believing that your DB performance has improved considerably, unless the DB box before was a 1.2Ghz Celeron with 128MB of RAM.

Virtualization has it's uses though. :)
