sweet lens. I was thinkin about that one for a while, but I went with the 24-105 for range, IS, and (mainly) because I got a good deal on it. Have you tried a 24-105..I haven't tried the 24-70 and am curious of the differences

i thought about the 24-105 because i wanted IS. the lens i sold to get this one was the EF-S 17-85 with IS and it came into use a lot.

i decided to get the 24-70 for a few reasons.
    1. quality consistancy
    2. wider aperture
    3. going for a 70-200 later on and i don't want redundancy with my zooms
    4. figured IS could be overlooked at these lengths and should work on technique to reduce camera shake.

I was fortunate to get a 'good copy' and I find it to be quite sharp. 2.8 lenses are nice especially because they are supposed to focus better. For my needs, either lens would work fine as I don't generally need a faster aperture or IS, so I went with the lower cost at the time

Why is that such a big deal? Do you often just pick up your camera and trust it was where it was before and dont actually recompose the photo?

You pick it up, you make sure its zoomed and composed like you want and take the shot, not a big deal if you ask me.

Also who cares if it extends at the wide end? It does it all within the hood anyway, I dont even realize its changing size when using it.

Oh well. Everyone has their pet peeves I guess.:)

Never said it was a big deal, just an annoyance. They can make a 70-200 and 16-35 internal zooming, would it be so much trouble to create a mid range zoom that does the same?
