Hay guys, just got my dell inspiron 6000 in the post and I forgot how much XP Home sucks.

I've got a pretty cool copy of win xp pro, but I've never installed it on a laptop with specialised hardware. Am I going to have problems here? Can I just use the dell CD's I got with the lappy to load the drivers onto the new version of windows or am I going to be doing more harm than good here?

There should be no problems, and Windows Update should take care of any drivers you need.

it's windows, driver problems should never be an issue. Worst case senerio, you install it, then right click on my computer -> device manager, see the yellow ones? those have no drivers. Head over to dell.com and pick up what you need. If you know someone at college, xp pro is gonna run about 10$

it depends on the college if its $10... not all colleges get that.

if you have the driver CD you got with the computer, you shouldnt have any problems at all. even if you didnt have the CD, you will be able to download all the drivers you need from dell.com.

so, do it... you wont have anything too hard to deal with.

:bowrofl: I've had way more driver problems on Windows than on any other OS.

Seriously, though, you shouldn't have any problems with just throwing Pro on there.
