I already posted this in the main forum, hoping for some more educated replies there though. I have an older laptop I bought for $100 dollars not working and fixed it for cheap, but now I want to upgrade. It has a celeron socket 478 processor, so does this mean any other socket 478 processor will work with it or are there special smaller notebook processors? I ask this because they also made p4's in the same socket and I would much rather have that than a shitty celeron. The processor in it now is 1.4ghz, and a 2.66ghz celeron would only be $40 though.

Depending on chipset and some other mobo factors you may or may not be able to do this. Yes it's a S478 formfactor... but FSB and cores are diff.

From what I can tell from the HP website, it has a 400mhz frontside bus and a Banias core.
