have a 3 ghz p4 with 2.5 gigs of ram, and a geforce 6600 gt pci x16 video card.

a newer geforce video card is cheap as hell.

would it be worth it to upgrade to that to play things like HL2, or TF2, or just stick with my VC now and build a new system when i can afford it?

Yea, build a new system. I had a 3.2ghz p4 for a while before I upgraded to c2d, and believe me its a big jump.

That P4 is probably going to bottleneck your system if you get a newer card...

Source games really arent that graphically intensive but the physics in those games are the big thing. Especially in TF2, the physics are spread out on the GPU and CPU

P4 is old school. Wait until you can afford to build a new PC... it isn't expensive to build your own these days. I built my friend a decent one for $699CAD after tax & shipping :coold:

    Get rid of that P4.

An E series 6000+ Intel chip and a 9800GT+ should do you just fine.

    I personally run an E8500 (3.16 c2d) and a 285 GTX; picked it up for about 1300.
