A&P Upgrade from XT to 30D - noticeable difference?

Discussion in 'Lifestyle' started by coughlin's law, Apr 27, 2008.

  1. ISO 3200 sounds pretty damn nice, and 5fps isn't too bad either... :o

They're both 1.6x crop and 8 megapixel... I'm thinking there's not that big of a difference.... but again, the ISO 3200 sounds so damn nice...

Biggest difference IMO is the body itself. The xti feels a bit cheap, especially compared to a magnesium body like the 30D. 3200 is pretty unusable but the 30d does look a little better at higher ISOs than the xti.

you aren't gonna see a huge picture quality difference.. the biggest difference will be the much better control that the 30D's second nav wheel offers

    and the screen size

    xti != xt

xti feels pretty solid. xt feels cheap.

but they are both much lighter than a 30D

does the 30d/40d a/f better in low light?

this would be the only real reason i'd want to upgrade.

  6. I would imagine the ISO 3200 would help out a lot...

ergonomics and larger viewfinder will be the two main differences.

i just made this upgrade in march. and like everyone is saying, the body is the biggest upgrade. the 30d seems quite a bit better with noise at higher iso than the xt.

i did this exact same upgrade back when the 30d first came out. ISO3200 is nice to have. but it is very grainy and nearly unusable. noise control is slighthly better on the 30d. the biggest difference starts around ISO 800. 30d is slightly better. but the main reason i upgraded was the actual physical body. i would shoot all day and the XT would hurt my hand cause it was so damn small. the ergos on the 30d is way better.

:werd: on the ergos. and its nice having 1/3 iso stops rather than just full stops. helps when you can use 640 or something rather than going up to the next full stop.

Why would you be excited about 3200ISO? It's not like you can use it, really.

    I don't think it's really worth it.

as long as you nail the exposure, and it's only going to be used for small-ish websized pics, ISO 3200 on a 20/30d isn't to bad.

i have a 17-55 2.8 as well. i was just wondering if the 30/40d performs better as far as low light focusing.
