    well...

she was sitting there for a long time doing basically bugger all. but a couple of weeks ago i started doing night shift, which means i now have a bit more cash around. so i started hunting for a carby just to get her running. i tracked down this guy in newcastle who had a standard carby from a 1600 (solex 34mm pict3) and he said he'd give it to me for free. so i drove up there and got it. but i needed a manifold.

well, even better, i went to a vw swap meet last weekend and found a guy selling a weber dcnf with manifold and air cleaner for $150, so i bought it and took it to my dad.

by midday the next day, we had her running :big grin:

this now means that we can move her around a lot easier, so it's time to get into the little body work that needs doing before we paint.

for the paint, after bouncing back and forward between black and blue and just about everything else, we've settled on a nice bright arctic white.

now, onto the pics. this is what she looks like as of tonight, sitting in my dad's shed. (please ignore the junk that is currently on/in it) :big grin:

I'd love to restore a Beetle to it's 60s look, black and white paint, the chrome bits, white walled tires...all stock and 60s looking

I've got a mint condition '79 beetle vert, red, and less than 35,000 original miles. It rarely gets driven around though...

    Looks good.

Ditch the Solex & go with duals. Better throttle response, idle (solex is horrible) & usuable power.

I don't even know if the make Kadron's anymore, but they were a relatively inexpensive dual upgrade.
Other than that Dellorto's or Webers, I guess.

The good thing about those motors is no matter what you do in motor upgrades you still hover around 30 mpg, even with dual carb's.
