For those that were in the other Cougar thread, you probably already know that Beretta refused to refinish the gun.
I was disappointed, since I wanted this to be covered under their crappy 1 yr warranty. But oh well.
Now it just gives me a chance to send it off somewhere for some kind of custom finish (more on that later).

Before the pics, this is what Beretta said in the manefest it sent back with the gun, word for word.
Now the pictures, just taken tonight after I received the gun back.

3 barrel pics next to the slide, the slide is obviously the original color of the barrel:

2 pictures of the rust forming on the whatever the fuck you call it:

I realize this is my word against theirs, and I could be embellishing the story to make it sound worse, but I promise to you I'm telling the truth and this is what happened. The finish on the barrel basically just deteriorated. I never left any Hoppe's on the barrel for an extended period of time, and it never touched any other chemicals. My personal opinion is this, if their finish can't handle Hoppe's #9, there is something seriously wrong with their finish. That's like the most popular gun cleaning solution on the planet.

With all of that said, where should I send my gun to have it refinished?
I remember there were a few places mentioned on here awhile back, and one of them was in, I wanna say, Arkansas or Alabama, but I can't remember the name. It needs to be a decent price, I can't afford a $500 finish, and nor is this gun worth that. But give me any ideas you can think of.

Sorry for the delay, I don't know why my computer is running so slow.
Its either Comcast's unbeatable reliability, or my shit is finally on its way out the door. (Its 5 yrs old)

holy shit that barrel looks awful..beretta's finishes arent exactly durable. I put a small scratch on px4 bruniton finish with just my fingernail. oh and that part is the trigger bar..dont know why it would be rusting though.

I know, there's just no way Hoppe's #9 would do that.

    Thanks.

Retarded laws not letting people mail guns to other people :greddy:

Hell, you could probably finish it yourself if you want. I've seen some pretty cool homemade park setups with just a Coleman camping stove and a stainless steel restaurant pan.

Well, I thought about it, but I think I want to send it somewhere and have it done right.
Take the whole damn thing apart, strip it, and refinish the whole thing.
Maybe even polish the barrel. We'll see.

If you think you can get the finish off yourself, brownells sells several different types of bake on finishes. I've heard decent things about CCR for the price too http://www.ccr-refinishing.com/hg.htm

minus whale send if off, have it done right and never have to worry about it again. That's pretty retarded that Beretta wouldn't do it for you. It probably would have cost them $25, including paying some ape $10 an hour.

Yeah, I'm not happy with them right now.
And making me pay for shipping to them was another thing that pissed me off. S&W sends you a prepaid label.

The original Beretta Cougars were $800 guns and were heavily sought after for a long time.
Beretta finally decided it could no longer market the gun (originally designed for LEO duty) for ~$800 with other duty guns, particularly polymer guns, going for hundreds less. So Beretta moved all the tooling and equipment to its sister company, shotgun maker Stoeger's facility in Turkey. There they could make the gun for much less.

Its the same fucking gun, nothing changed. The only thing I can think of that happened to this gun, is Stoeger cheaped out on the finish.
That does not make the gun a shitty gun, nor does it automatically make it worth $200. Although with a shitty barrel and rusting trigger bar, that probably is the case at this point.

I will have it fixed up, for as cheap as possible, and keep it. I happen to really like this gun.

Damn. Sounds expensive though. And would it look good on a handgun?

That's messed up. Reading their response made me laugh out loud. The solvent my friend uses in his vat will burn your skin if you leave it on there a little while. Hoppes #9 is like Johnson's baby shampoo compared to that stuff. But it's never messed the finish up on any gun he's ever cleaned in it. Funny how that works.
