My room-mate has a laptop with XP home. It came with a trial version of Norton Antivirus 2004. We tried using the admin account to uninstall it and got an error which will not allow us to uninstall it. Anyone got any ideas?

    Thanks!!!!

What exact steps did you take to uninstall it? Control Panel > ADD/remove programs?

Have fun. Getting rid of Norton crap isn't always easy. All it takes is one missing/damaged file and the uninstaller won't run. And if you try to reinstall, it will tell you to uninstall it first. Symantec has some real geniuses working for them. You're probably going to have to manually delete the c:\program files\Norton Antivirus and c:\program files\common files\symantec folders, then search the registry on "Norton" and "Symantec" and delete all references to them.

Yup, it can be a pain in the ass. You should be able to find some help in the Symantec Knowledge Base.

try going into the msconfig menu and disabling the startup features of NAV, there will probably be several. Boot into safe mode and try uninstalling there. Norton is sometimes (often?) picky about uninstalling as long as any part of it is running.
