I got a message from my doctor asking me to call him, turns out my bloodtest results show "kidney problems". Anyone want to take bets that it's excess creatinine?

Do you take creatine? How much?

That could very well be what the problem is.

So is it kidney problems, or just temporary effects of creatine?

I'm assuming it's the CEE, coupled with the 500mg of caffeine I have flushing out my body every day. We'll see what the doc says on sunday.

Saw the doctor 2 days ago, he says I have so much creatinine in my blood I'll "have kidney damage very soon if I don't already". He says I need to stop taking creatine, while I've been taking 2g before workouts, maybe twice a week. He also said I should go for 1g/kg BW protein and not 1g/lb.

I'm cutting out cafeine instead, from 300-500mg/day to 0. I'm heading back in 6 weeks to retest and see if that clears up any problems.

Not to be a dick of anything just asking, if he said to stop taking creatine why don't you stop for a bit to see how the new blood test comes up?? The doctor said you have too much creatine in your body, and possibly may have kidney problems. That's all I need to hear to not take it again. :ugh:

Dude it should be fine. 2g's a day isent much at all. The reason the doctor is worried is because high levels of carnitine (without taking creatine) is usually a sign of poor kidney function. Taking creatine will raise the levels "artificialy". I knew about this before I took my blood test, so I didnt take creatine the week before it and my test came back fine. I was taking 4g a day before that.

24h should be enough but I did that though. I still came back with a blood test similar to someone using gear though :ugh:

2g/day is nothing, but my blood still had high levels of creatinine (not carnitine), which apparently puts a load on your kidneys because they have to flush it. The fact that they were high when I was taking in possibly 4g/week does have me wondering...

Anyways I've dropped the coffee and upped the water. I'll be heading back for a retest in 6 weeks to see if that was the problem. Any thouhts on this from elfling or pur?

I don't see the logic. I'm not trying to pass any "test", if I'm taking creatine and too much excess is staying in my blood I want to know.

Creatinine is a waste product of creatine. If you have a kidney problem, you should have elevated creatine levels. If you ADD creatine to your diet, high creatinine level won't be a proof of kidney problem. By not taking creatine, you'll have your "real" creatinine level which will show if you have a kidney problem or not.
By taking creatine you know you'll have excess creatinine because the goal is to top the muscles' creatine store.

but you want to test your kidney function. if you are off the creatine and it still is coming back high thats a problem. if you are taking it it's automatically going to come back high no matter how your kidney's are functioning.
