First off, A little about my self.

    Age:18
    Height:6'1"
    Weight:230

Im currently in my last semester of high school and am contemplating choices of what to do.

Its either community college and transfering to a state college in texas. (texas a&m commerce)
    OR
Joining the military, doing something with my life and getting my education and quite possibly a career.

    WHY? you say?

Well Ive always been the person that was hanging out with the cool people, able to talk(just recently grew some balls and started standing up for myself)
Im quite the funny? guy in the class, I come across as a nerd/loner. But most people never take the time to actually get to know me.

I currently work at a restraunt cooking/cutting meat(barbacue). Doing so has easily raised my stamina, and ability to work long hours without being tired.
I know that sounds corny but having to lift 90lb cases of meat all day is quite the work out.

Im very accustom to the outdoors, IE: hunting, fishing, hiking. Its one thing that keeps me sane.
Im a gun/military nerd, i collect guns and memorabilia from family members and being part of something my grandpa and uncle were would be one thing i want my grandpa to see before... well you know:wtc:.

    ON TO THE TECHNICAL STUFF.

I dont know atm what service branch to go into, if I want to even.

I know Im not wanting to actually enroll as infantry, medical, flyboy, or clerical duty.

Im actually thinking of either doing Military police/EOD/mechanic/support(arty)

    ANY ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

Go into any branch for at least 4 years to give you some time to think about what you want to do with your life. If you don't like the military then at least you have the MGIB to help pay for your education...and if you played your cards right you would have completed an associates degree while you were in the service. You also wouldn't be in debt like others in college right now, and you would learn how to control your finances and know what is like to stand on your own two feet.

first off, welcome to teh barracks, my fellow lpcer. :wavey:

1.) as for your height....you don't wanna be a tanker, and if you do, then definately not a Driver. (tight, cramped spaces)

2.) army education benefits are excellent these days

3.) i made my family proud for sure. also, got to check out a LOT of guns...and learn a lot about military history. It's one thing to learn military history, and another to kind of experience something of what it means.

4.) I'm a Tank Mechanic, and it's cool...it has it's ups and downs.....mechanics have a lot of free time, and have their shit together so that when the shit hits the fan, they get business taken care of. but...with that free time in mind, your unit will know about that free time, and use you for bitch work from time to time. ;x

now, EOD with the AF is an awesome job. i knew a bunch of EOD guys in iraq, and they were the coolest mofos around. great bonuses, hazard pay incentives and whatnot.

i'll have more tomorrow when teh  has run it's course

doesn't texas have the grant as well your tuition is payed for at any public college if you've done at least 3 years active duty? IL has it, called the IL veteran grant.

My cousin and I graduated high school around the same time. He's on his 4th year at the community college and has gotten about 1.3 years worth of credits out of it. ill be going back to college in fall 09 and will have over $40,000 from the MGIB plus upwards of $70,000 from the IL grant for tuition depending on which school i pick.

AF EOD ftw. Those fuckers roll out with our Route Clearance teams sometimes. They don't man the weapon in their turret. They sleep if the mission lasts longer than a couple of hours. And they generally do nothing that doesn't involve anything more than sending out their robot with a water charge to disable anything we find.

But they get better pay, better conditions, and more hot chicks than we do. :coolugh:

I was reclassed as an MP to backfill for a deploying garrison unit my last year and half in the guard. It was a pretty easy job and could be exciting at times but it was mostly just filling out paperwork. And the hate for MP's seems to be way worse than the hate people have for civilian cops.

good luck bro! have you talked to a recruiter? I am in Plano, so you aren't too far from me LOL

Currently in the same boat as you, 'cept I am filling out enlistment paperwork and sending my recommendation from a civilian doc saying I am cleared to go to active duty.

best bet, just do it. a lot of people think waaaay too long and back out.

    :bigthumb: YOU REMEMBER LOL j/k

ya, the AF. Just keep asking questions and make sure you get your answers. Do a Pros and Cons list, a bit more extensive one than the one you have. Base them off of fact, not preformed opinion.

:noes: I got the high five from a badass! :bigthumb:

Ya, I totally endorse finding out as much as possible about something before jumping in. But I find myself wanting to just jump into the AF, of course I am on hurry up and wait status, as I am sure you all know LOL!

That wouldnt have been me...the only guy I ever pulled over for speeding was doing 80kmh in a 25 and he ended up being a CID agent. I never bothered people over small bullshit...The way I looked at it most units on that base were getting ready to deploy so im definitely not gonna fuck with them over minor stuff.
