So... I bought a p22 off a friend yesterday. He said it was practically brand new and it looked like it was. He's had it for about a year, shot 50 rounds through it, cleaned it and put it away. FWIW, I believe the guy. I don't think he had any knowledge of what was about to happen. I've known him for quite a while and he's helped me out of a few jams and is an all around good guy.

Anyway, I went to the range and was loving it, and then... WTF. Looks like the hammer spring? broke and now the hammer won't drop. This was after about 200 rounds.

On the plus side it won't cost you a dime to fix it. On the down side fixing it doesn't do anything about the overall quality

Round count is irrelevant to me. If I don't know the guy and gun, as in someone out side of my shooting community, I wouldn't buy used. I don't know what he's done to the innards, or of his cleaning practices, tinkering practice.

I'd feel more comfortable buying a higher round count gun from someone I know, knows how to take care of his shit. And that means a lot more than just knowing how to take a gun apart and oiling a patch.

I've probably put 1500 rounds through mine with 1 cleaning with no issues :o

I know the guy through our local car club. And he's meticulous with his cars. So I think it's safe to assume he's the same way with his guns.

Man, these things seem to be a hit or miss. Mine has been a hit, along with a good buddy of mine who got his about the same time. Mine has been an absolute work horse...it gets so many Rem. Golden Bullets through it that i wouldnt blame it if it broke.:mamoru:

Sounds good. Then it seems it may just be some freak mishap as it appears there are plenty of satisfied P22 owners. I'd have them fix it for you. Good luck!

Good news. He called Walther and they are mailing him a shipping label and said that they will fix it under warranty. So I'll meet up with him over the weekend and send the gun back and hopefully all is good. :)

lol, me too. Funny, since cars was my #1 hobby for almost 10 years. I don't even care to change the oil on my car anymore and I wash my car about twice a year.

 I'm becoming the same way. Cars were pretty much my life for the past 6 years, but, I've been slowly fading away from it. I've just lost interest. However, my once subtle interest in firearms/weapons has now turned into my main hobby. :coolugh:

Once I get rid of my play car, it's game on for gun stuff. :wavey:

Yeah, I got really annoyed by all the noobs showing up and ruining it for me. We were racing imports in the early early 90's when everyone was still lowriding their mini trucks, and sticking Daytons on thier Civic coupes, lol. Then came the "Fast and Furious" crowd aka the Sticker queen Era. And it was no longer the same for me and I didn't want to be associated with that crowd no longer.

I think probably half of the stories I hear about the P22 have to do with it breaking or not functioning somehow.

I've posted up some issues I've had with mine. Nothing serious. Some I could fix myself, and others I'll deal with in time. Great plinker IMO.
