Saw the article on slashdot, this is the link to the story. http://www.newscientist.com/blog/invention/2006/06/password-protected-bullets.html

Worst idea ever...I especially like this line towards the bottom:

"The system would undoubtedly cost more than a conventional gun, but many firearm enthusiasts would surely pay a premium for such added security."

Oh yeah...I'd love to pay more for my gun to be crippled

and yes, I know it's not encrypted, thats just the title of the article on /.

I would love it if I could make my guns only fire for me. I however won't complicate the system and add more failure points for it. Its an impossible dream.

even newfangled biometric guns, which check the identity of a user by their fingerprint, cannot stop thieves from using stolen ammunition in other weapons.

People steal guns for ammunition? Thats the most retarded reason ever to make secure guns. If were to steal a gun and I couldn't use it, I would just take it apart and sell the parts. Or buy the exact same gun and switch out the barrels with the stolen one.

I don't think this stupid shit will ever take off. I mean this will only make used gun sales skyrocket.

I'm sure that they'll figure out a way to do it eventually. I don't think that it'll be anytime soon, though.

judge dread voice and bio-recognition guns FTW!!!

they never need to be reloaded, so u dont have to worry about the ammo, and the system is fool proof... unless of course you clone the one of the judges and he turns evil :noes:

But it'll prevent stolen ammo from being used in other guns...

Is stolen ammo really the problem? :ugh:
