A NEW KIND OF FIGHT – Mixed martial arts, combining styles like boxing, wrestling and jujitsu, was once deemed too vicious for decent society.

The sport has now modified its rules and is becoming one of the fastest growing sports in America. Scott Pelley reports. Solly Granatstein is the producer.

Here's hoping they provide a fair and unbiased opinion of MMA. Knowing ABC though, it'll show the most violent parts and have doctor's "opinions" that it shouldn't be legal.

Officially sanctioned by CSAC and NSAC. Fuck em if they try to say that its unsafe or too violent. Boxing is much more damaging to fighters in the long term.

Would be nice to hear a decent unbiased report.

They've been pretty kind to boxers over the years...I bet it gets a fair shake.

so, did anyone watch this last night? it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.... It started off a little rough, but smoothed out a bit. Oh, and Dana did a great job of looking like a total tool again.

Lol at Dana's response about the companies worth. You can bet that any person owning or running a company knows exactly what it's worth. He probably doesn't want it to looks so bad when people see what the fighters make comparatively.

He doesn't have to say the price for that to happen. They were talking about a SINGLE event making over 28 million. I am very close t oa few promoters and the only difference between the shows is the size of the venue and my friends only spend about 100k for a show. Dana pays a bit more but with 28 mill commin in off the gate and PPV buys alone he is paying shit. What I'm saying is that his bill for running a UFC show cannot exceed 500,000 dollars maye a million tops, TOPS.

Well if MMA is the new boxing, I guess that makes him the new Don King.

The show paints MMA people as well-educated and fairly articulate. Then you go and spell iceberg incorrectly. :hsugh:

    Good points otherwise.

I bet the guy gained some more respect when he rolled with Hughes and the MFS guys.

Except when he rolled with Tim. He probably thought after a day of training he could submit him.

Even if this is the case and they spend according to your calculations 2-3.5mill on an event that leaves roughly 24.5 mill of pure profit. They can afford to pay the fighters more.
