1: UFC Fight Night 10 will take place on June 9, 2007, in an as-of-yet-unknown city and venue, according to a reliable UFCjunkie.com souce.

Unlike recent Fight Night events, that latest installment will take place on a weekend rather than a weekday. The Saturday event is expected to air on Spike TV beginning at 9 p.m. ET.

UFC Fight Night 10 will kick off a run of three UFC events in three weeks. The Fight Night event takes place June 9, UFC 72 has been announced for June 16, and The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale is set for June 23.

Earlier today, Sherdog.com reported that a bout between Spencer Fisher (19-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC) and Sam Stout (11-2-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) would take place on June 9.

According to our source, UFC Fight Night 10 is the event scheduled for that date.

This bout will actually be a rematch. The two lightweights first met on the undercard of UFC 58 in March 2006 in the first 155-pound fight the UFC scheduled since it resurrected the division.

Fisher was a late replacement for Kenny Florian in the fight and lost a split decision to Stout. That defeat snapped the Miletich fighter’s eight-fight win streak.

Stay tuned to UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com) for the announcement of a future fight that may take place on this card. We should have the report posted later today.

2: The Ultimate Fighter 3 middleweight runner-up Ed Herman (12-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) will face MMA veteran Scott Smith (11-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at June 16’s event in Belfast, Ireland.

The UFC.com’s Thomas Gerbasi reported the news today.

Herman, who lost a tough-fought unanimous decision to eventual show winner Kendall Grove at The Ultimate Fighter 3 Finale, still earned a contract as a consolation prize.

However, in his debut fight under the new deal, Herman was upset with a first-round submission loss to Jason MacDonald, who used the victory to springboard his own career in the UFC.

Herman bounced back with a win over Chris Price at UFC Fight Night 8 in January. Although his first-round armbar submission win was impressive, Herman’s opponent wasn’t. Price weighed in seven pounds over the 185-pound limit, and according to a UFCjunkie.com source, he didn’t appear too worried about the problem as he lounged by the pool the night before weigh-ins. (With that said, I should point to our exclusive interview with Price from before the fight, in which he sounded very focused on the fight.)

One legendary punch is probably what got Herman’s opponent, Smith, on the UFC 72 card.

Smith, a cast member on The Ultimate Fighter 4, fought Pete Sell on the show’s live finale. After Sell delivered a body shot that crippled his opponent, Smith waited and then delivered a stunning KO punch that instantly dropped Sell and stopped the fight. Although it first appeared Smith might have been faking an injury to his ribs, he too dropped to the canvas, and both fighters needed medical attention.

That KO victory earned Smith another UFC fight in February, but he dropped a unanimous decision to Patrick Cote in the UFC 67 bout. Since then, he picked up a first-round TKO victory over a little-known opponent at a Palace Fighting Championship event last month.

Under-the-radar welterweight contender Jon Fitch (13-2 MMA, 5-0 UFC) will face recent UFC signee Roan Carneiro (11-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 10 on June 9, according to a UFCjunkie.com source close to one of the fighters. No location or venue is yet known for the event.

Despite a staggering five-fight win streak in the UFC (and 12 straight victories overall), Fitch could be on the main card of a UFC event for just the second time in his career. Four of his five previous UFC fights have been relegated to the undercard — despite a host of notable opponents.

During his win streak, Fitch has defeated Brock Larson (UFC Fight Night 2), Josh Burkman (UFC Fight Night 4), Thiago Alves (UFC Fight Night 5), Kuniyoshi Hironaka (UFC 64) and Luigi Fioravanti (UFC 68).

After learning that his UFC 68 fight in March would once again go un-televised, the American Kickboxing Academy fighter encouraged his fans to contact the UFC to voice their displeasure. Apparently, they did so — lots of them — and Fitch later said the UFC contacted him, told him they got the message, and that he should quiet the mini-riot he started.

While UFCjunkie.com was unable to confirm it, the Fitch-Carneiro seems destined for the televised main card of UFC Fight Night 10.

Carneiro made his UFC debut earlier this month at UFC Fight Night 9 and picked up a unanimous-decision win over The Ultimate Fighter 4’s Rich Clementi on the event’s undercard. The Brazilian Top Team member, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, fought six times in 2006 with a 4-2 record.

Despite what appears to be a mediocre record, Carneiro’s resume features a host of top MMA opponents, including current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The two fighters met in a Meca World Vale Tudo event five years ago with Silva emerging the victor.
