    UFC 93 Discussion Thread ****SPOILERS****

    Dan Henderson vs. Rich Franklin
    Mauricio Rua vs. Mark Coleman
    Jeremy Horn vs. Rousimar Palhares
    Marcus Davis vs. Chris Lytle
    Alan Belcher vs. Denis Kang
    Martin Kampmann vs. Alexandre Barros
    Eric Schafer vs. Antonio Mendes
    Tomasz Drwal vs. Ivan Serati
    Nate Mohr vs. Dennis Siver
    Tom Egan vs. John Hathaway

Not a terrible card, not a great card. Chance for some FOTY fights though, so I guess we can't complain too much.

Hendo vs. Franklin, a fight many have wanted to see for a long time. Great matchup.
The return of Shogun and retirement of Coleman.
Jeremy Horn will remind us why he shouldnt be on the Main Card.
Davis vs. Lytle, not even a truck load of Brazilian imported excuses could make up for this one if it doesnt deliver.
Kampmann finally at a logical weight class.
And the arrival of Dennis Kang.... ....god knows which Kang will show up. But this fight could be fantastic if it stays on the feet.

This has potential to be one of those under the radar cards. Where you don't expect much but it ends up being a great card that everybody talks about. Especially with everybody focusing on St Pierre/Penn coming soon. Either way there should be some good fights so I'm really looking forward to it.

I hope Kang comes in and makes a huge splash at middleweight.

I loved the countdown show, Coleman seems like a dick at times but I still want the dude to do well. That's probably nostalgia speaking but still. I don't see him winning this match though but hopefully he sticks around for a while.

Oh and the Dan Henderson/Rich Franklin shit in Dana's UFC blog was so fucking awkward.

agreed, but i wouldn't be surprised if he lost as well :hs:

Kang reminds me of Arlovski. all the potential in the world with remarkable fighting pedigrees, but falls just short in making it big

i guess i meant more to the degrees of their potential. AA was at the top for awhile, but that was during an even more shallow pool of HWs. he should've been dominating faces left and right given the hype

both have good work ethics, are very athletic, are very technical boxers with high end submission games, etc.

i hope belcher does evil things to him.

kang should have been less stubborn at the end of 2006 and signed with the ufc.
instead, he's looked mediocre for the past 2 years and he's lucky to be even getting a chance in the octagon.

I think Franklin will dismantle Henderson in every aspect of the game. Hendo won't be able to get a takedown, and Rich will punish him on the feet all while Henderson goes for the big right hand.

I'm excited to see Shogun back in action, but he should be able to pummel Mark Coleman whether or not he's back to being the old Shogun...

Toquino will get a highlight reel submission over Jeremy Horn. They're just showing this fight on the main card so they can pump up their new investment after he got beat by Henderson last fight. This should be a nice start, and I think he could reel off a few wins in a row.

Marcus Davis will outbox Lytle all night, and probably end it in the late 2nd/early 3rd once Lytle starts to gas from throwing nonstop haymakers.

I'm also not sure how I feel about it being at 205. i have to think it gives Hendo a substantial advantage.

I'm guessing Franklin is going to execute the exact same gameplan as he did vs. Corky.

Franklin/Henderson is really tough to pick. I have a feeling though that Rich will outsmart Dan, and pick him apart much like Okami en route to a decision. He's shown he can avoid the clinch and tough spots with wrestlers while scoring points.

Rua should dominate Coleman, I'd like to see an armbar and a tearful Coleman personally a la Fedor. Hopefully that will be a nice retirement package for Mark.

Palhares should land a nice heelhook or go to a boring decision. Here's hoping for the former.

Kang should be able to overpower Belcher, and maybe even get him to the ground and pull a sub. Actually, anywhere this fight goes, Kang should be good to win. Though he did jump into that triangle earlier this year...

The Hitman will probably look good at WW, hopefully he won't lose too much of his speed but retain his power. 2nd rd KO for Kampmann.

Henderson, i just see him as better overall

    Mauricio Rua vs. Mark Coleman
Coleman, going out on a limb and think Shogun will be very underwhelming after 2 major knee surgeries

    Jeremy Horn vs. Rousimar Palhares
Palhares, he's going to tap horn pretty fast

    Marcus Davis vs. Chris Lytle
Davis, stand up war, but davis has cleaner striking and KO power

    Alan Belcher vs. Denis Kang
Belcher, i want Kang to win, but my gut says belcher, he's no slouch on his feet

I'm just bummed that this card is thrown right in the same time frame as 2 events I REALLY want to see... I am going to have to pass on this one since there is no way I am paying for 3 ppv fights in 3 consecutive weekends (this card, Affliction, GSP vs. Penn)...

Yeah, its just I've never seen Franklin as being able to headline a card, and lets be totally honest, the fight doesn't matter at all. Franklin, I'm not going to say he's a has been, but the only way he's getting any title is if Anderson retires, and same with Henderson. It could be a good fight, but I'm not going to pay a bunch of money for it.

I'd like to see Kang fight to see what all the hype is about, but again, too much money for one fight. And shit, Jeremy Horn is still fighting? I didn't even know that, I don't need to see a guy come out super soft and have Joe Rogan tell me about his crazy wealth of experience and having a thousand pro fights, he hasn't been a contender in anything for like 4 years.

I really am only going to start getting cards that I'm actually excited for, the UFC is just too full of shit and run by total assholes to support them just because they put some fights on and tell me how awesome these fighters are. I'd honestly prefer Affliction started doing more fights and made some money to see some real competition for the UFC.
