i have searched and searched on this, but if anyone can give me some help i'd appreciate it.

ive tried ubuntu 6, 7, and now the 8 alpha.

i'm running it on my mac inside virtualization. i'm asking it here and not in mac shack because it think it's a general linux question.

i'm trying to get the resolution at 1440x900.

i tried via the gui - and the max res i can do is 1024x768. i changed the monitor type to "LCD panel 1440x900" and nothing changes.

ive edited the "screen" section of the xorg.conf file to include 1440x900 resolution, but it still won't change.

    what else can i do?
