Ok My Assignment was to have something that says Change or New Beginning in Vegas. It had to be black and white with a landscape orientation.

Here is what i came up with. I dunno if i like it or not, we will see if my editor does.

was trying to achieve the dawn of a new day type shot with teh construction and what not
    [IMG]

and here is one i took since i was on teh strip anyway. I always wanted to do the other side of the Vegas sign.
I prefer this image sooo much more than my assignment image, but whatevs

i'm completely new at this, so disregard everything i say,

but i think the bright light is a little too much in the first pic.

at least, it distracts the hell out of me

    do love it though

really? you like it? I kinda have a love/hate with it right now, Im goign to try and rework it more where teh cranes arent getting obliterated by teh sun.

Im afraid its too busy. But do you think it conveys New Beginnings? Does it convey Vegas?

I like the first photo - cranes signifies new growth, etc. However, I think the highlights are way too blown out. Especially since the cranes are the most important symbol for the photo - they are almost lost and therefore the lack of detail weakens the photo. Any chance you can redo the photograph in the same location again? If so, I think you'd have a very strong image.

I like the first photo, but I wish it was a little tighter and showed more of an emphasis on the cranes. IMO, a silhouette of the skyline with the cranes would be

first pic is great. I would not darken the top of frame, keep that bright to symbolize the brightness of a new day. Darken the lower frame a bit.

idea being...when a new day dawns, darkness recedes.

It would help if you could burn in the sun a bit more and make the rays more pronounced. Then it would scream "new beginnings"

    first pic is great!

Reign in the overpowering sun and you have a winner. Just a little though... I think your HDR effect might actually work here.

Use the shot that has the best sunrise, then HDR in the rest of the city.

But i'd like it even as is, if you painted in the cranes a bit.

Everything is perfect in #1 except the blotchyness of the cranes, clear them up and it'll look good.

Try cropping it just below the big Bellagio sign with the "O"

the first shot is great. if you're worried about that lens flair, try taking the same pic, but with the sun behind the buildings (would probably be best for shadows to add interest) or when the sun is behind you.

    ok. last suggestion...

cut the opacity of your paint layer in half, so the cranes are defined, but don't pop out on the image like they're the most important part. The new one is looking better, but with the cranes so clear and crisp they draw too much attention...
