wow, 1.5 million rounds. I imagine our troops are using it basically as fast as we're making it, so that's a lot of trigger pulls.

These are just the bullet jackets before the lead was added to make a bullet. Not even a complete round (w/ bullet, case, powder, and primer). Dumbasses proabaly were taking the copper and recycling it for cash. Copper and brass prices are crazy.

A 5 gallon bucket of brass shell casings are $100 recycled. If you wanted to buy "once fired" cases for reloading it's $30/1000.

There's a longer article at thr.com, and that's what they were doing.

They were gettinh $3.10 per pound... I think they got around $30k from the recycler overall.

Around 4 bucks a pound around here. Metal recyclers are shady motherfuckers and fully know most of their shit is stolen.
They pay one or two bucks for a shopping cart that costs Kroger $300.

They should just line them up and dispatch them via rifle squad.

in rural areas people are stealing copper like bananas. Steeling air conditioners, copper piping, anything. My friend who takes a lot of shit from his farm to recycle says the people there don't take smoke breaks they take meth breaks. He's made a few grand recycling the old piping radiators, pig pens, etc. from the farm he bought.

the theft of copper can make people do some fucking crazy things.

There were some people in Atlanta that were stripping HIGH VOLTAGE lines for the copper wire. It was costing the city tens of thousands of dollars, if not more to fix and deal with the downtime.

I've heard stories of people in the southwest tying a power cable to their truck and just drive miles down the road with it reeling in on a spool, as they're ripping it off the power lines.

How the fuck do people think they can do something like that and not get caught?:ugh:

Lake City is going to notice 1.5 million missing cups, and the recycler's probably going to think something funny is going on too.

There was a guy in Austin somewhere who chipped through the concrete at a power substation to get to the copper. A witness said he was on fire from the neck down.

Possibly 245 years in prison for roughly $30k cash? That sucks.

The recycler was on to them from the beginning. He kept looking around for theft reports but never found any...

Turns out the recycler's brother is the county prosecutor. Whoops! :mamoru:

A couple people got killed here doing the same thing. Two 20ish year olds broke into a sub station, one was electrocuted so the other went and got the kids dad, and his dad was killed trying to help his long dead son. :ugh:

wat? high-voltage carrier circuits are almost always aluminum. Although copper conducts better than aluminum, copper is also much much heavier and if hung in an arial configuration in sufficient awg it would snap under stress... So they use stranded high-awg aluminum because it can handle the load without being too heavy between the poles.
