Two Right-to-Carry reform bills have been introduced this legislative session in Sacramento.

Assembly Bill 357, sponsored by Assembly Member Steve Knight (R-36), would create a "shall issue" concealed handgun permit system in California. Under current law, an applicant must show cause as to why they should be issued a permit to carry a concealed handgun for self-defense. AB357 would remove that stipulation and require sheriffs to issue the license if all other mandated criteria are satisfied. This bill has been referred to the Assembly Committee on Public Safety but no hearing has been scheduled.

Assembly Bill 1167, introduced by Assembly Member Jim Nielsen (R-2),
would require that the California Department of Justice enter into reciprocity agreements with other states so that permit holders in California can exercise their self-defense rights while traveling and permit holders from recognized states can carry while in California. AB1167 has not yet been assigned to a committee.

Please continue checking your email and www.NRAILA.org for updates on AB357 and AB1167.

I recently heard this story on the nightly news. The day afterward I checked around online and wrote the congressman suggesting we have strict gun laws in the first place, so why not complement them with something like this.

You go guys! I hope for the best for your state. This is a glimmer of hope in a dark age of weapons in that state.

one of the things I was trying to suggest is writing to the assemblymen to vote for it. the more they hear from their constituents the better the outcome should be. it really didn't take that long for me to find my district.

Anyone know if this applies to cities as well, such as right now my city police chief won't give anyone a carry license because he says the reasons they have are not good enough. Would he have to give one now (pending the meet all the other requirements) now or does this only apply to county?

its a state law. if they pass, then within every county if you qualify for a CCW they SHALL issue you one.

and if after it becomes a state law and the chief LEO in your county (either chief of police or the sheriff) still doesnt issue you it after passing all the req's, then theres a problem

well, san francisco has a law that says you cant own a gun if you live in public housing but if these laws passed and you applied to get a CCW i dont see how they could deny you.

thats how it goes anyway. state law supersedes county/city law/ordinance in the same way federal law supersedes state law.

:werd: I can't wait and hope it passes. Being one of the last western frontiers, we can all act like drunk frontiersmen cowboys having shootouts at the local geriatric hospital or burger king :bigthumb:
