    Two charged after dozens of exotic weapons seized in Ottawa

    CBC News

    A man and a woman face more than a dozen charges after police raided an Ottawa apartment and seized almost 50 prohibited weapons, including a Yaqua blowgun with darts, and about 100 legal weapons.

    After executing a search warrant at a Lees Avenue address, police said officers seized prohibited weapons that included:

    * Four Tasers.
    * Six nunchaku sticks, a karate weapon.
    * Six shuriken throwing stars.
    * One Yaqua blowgun with darts.
    * One morning star, a club with a spiked ball.
    * 30 switchblades.
    * Three pairs of brass knuckles.
    * One sword cane.
    * One kusari, a chained weapon.

    They also seized around 100 legal weapons, such as long swords, broad swords, fighting knives and throwing knives, some imitation and replica guns and two sets of "house break-in instruments," police said in a news release.

    Mark Rennick, 32, and Krista Thomas, 33, both of Ottawa, face 18 charges each, including possession of prohibited weapons and importing prohibited weapons. They were released under conditions that include a ban on the possession of weapons, police said.

    Ottawa police said the Ontario Provincial Police weapons unit and the Canadian Border Services Agency assisted in the raid, but would not say what information prompted the search warrant.

    You guys laugh but we're on a slippery slope. My state will fuck me for just owning a switch blade, black jack, metal knuckles, or throwing stars. You need to be over 18 to carry pepper spray. If am also required to own a firearms id card to buy a taser and have to transport it cased just like a handgun.

    How many of you live in states that allow switch blades?

    The story shows the retardedness of society today but its spreading.

    Arizona allows them, but I believe they are illegal under federal law to anyone but LE/Mil and one-armed people.

    in FL you only need a ccw to care a taser if it shoots a dart. Prong tasers can be open carried with no license.

    You need a ccw to carry a knife that doesnt fold though :ugh:

    Section 265.00 Definitions
    4. "Switchblade knife" means any knife which has a blade which opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in the handle of the knife.

    5. "Gravity knife" means any knife which has a blade which is released from the handle or sheath thereof by the force of gravity or the application of centrifugal force which, when released, is locked in place by means of a button, spring, lever or other device.

    5-a. "Pilum ballistic knife" means any knife which has a blade which can be projected from the handle by hand pressure applied to a button, lever, spring or other device in the handle of the knife.

    5-b. "Metal knuckle knife" means a weapon that, when closed, cannot function as a set of metal knuckles, nor as a knife and when open, can function as both a set of metal knuckles as well as a knife.

    13. "Cane Sword" means a cane or swagger stick having concealed within it a blade that may be used as a sword or stilletto.

    14. "Chuka stick" means any device designed primarily as a weapon, consisting of two or more lengths of a rigid material joined together by a thong, rope or chain in such a manner as to allow free movement of a portion of the device while held in the hand and capable of being rotated in such a manner as to inflict serious injury upon a person by striking or choking. These devices are also known as nunchakus and centrifugal force sticks.

    15-a. "Electronic dart gun" means any device designed primarily as a weapon, the purpose of which is to momentarily stun, knock out or paralyze a person by passing an electrical shock to such person by means of a dart or projectile.

    15-b. "Kung Fu star" means a disc-like object with sharpened points on the circumference thereof and is designed for use primarily as a weapon to be thrown.

    15-c. "Electronic stun gun" means any device designed primarily as a weapon, the purpose of which is to stun, cause mental disorientation, knock out or paralyze a person by passing a high voltage electrical shock to such person.

    Section 265.01 Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree

    A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree when:

    (1) He possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic stun gun, gravity knife, switchblade knife, pilum ballistic knife, metal knuckle knife, cane sword, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, metal knuckles, chuka stick, sand bag, sandclub, wrist-brace type slingshot or slungshot, shirken or "Kung Fu star"; or

    Later in the code exemptions are made for licensed gun owners, switch blades while hunting trapping and fishing, law enforcement officers are of course exempt, and firearms being transported in certain circumstances. Per 265.10-4 the seller is guilty of a class A misdemeanor and a class D felony if they've been convicted of other crimes. Here's the cool part too if I'm reading everything right. You can carry your switchblade when hunting and fishing, but you can't buy it in New York, you're probably going to catch hell traveling with it, and thanks to federal law you can't buy them from other states....

    Isn't it neat to think how many laws are entirely due to movies. Switch blades, ninja stars, sword canes, and assault weapons...hmmmm
