tv tuner card

    i'm having a problem with my TV tuner... i had to reload XP due to a virus and everytime i run media center and watch TV i get a decoder error... any help??? i think its an ATi card... right now i'm not even sure if the computer reads the card, i've tried to physically reinstall the card with no results... its a dell xps 410

    you need a decoder, you lost it when you reload xp,... this does not come standard with windows mce installation

    this utility will check if you have the decoder
    http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/windowsdvdmpeg.html

    download/install powerdvd or windvd,.. these have the decoders

    Chances are good that you have to get the driver from the manufacturer
    of your card.

    I use a Winfast tv tuner card, and they have proprietary drivers along with an app that is needed to run the card.

    yup no decoder... any links to a decent decoder??? i really would rather not pay for one.

    :nono: mods will not allow that

    a direct download link will be harder to find anyway (i don't know any)
    easier to find these apps on torrents/newsgroups

    i'm not sure about this,... but you could also try downloading a trial version of PowerDVD or WinDVD.
    the decoder is built-in on those apps. even if the trial period expires,... media center might still work since it only needs the decoder. this is just a guess though. :dunno:
