How often do you guys eat tuna? How do you feel about the FDA recommendations of a can a day max (iirc?) due to mercury levels. Im 6' 178, and trying to gain some more weight. Im basically eating everything in my path, and tuna just seems like a great quick high protein meal. I usually mix it in a bowl with some pineapple and steel cut oats. I am only eating one bowl a day, but would like to increase that number. Bad idea?

There's been a few threads on this.. may want to search.

I get sick of Tuna fast.. so a can a day is too much for me, personally.. but its just a taste thing.

I asked my uncle about tuna a while ago, I was wondering about the mercury and all that and he said he has been eating two cans a day for 15 years and his mercury levels are normal according to his blood work. I assume if it was a big deal tuna would be banned.

I dont think it would be a problem. But "just" putting this out there, doesnt different kinds of tuna have different levels of mercury? i.e. albacore has alot.

I get cans of chicken from Costco and use em the same way as Tuna. Canned chicken just sounds wrong but it's not too bad actually.

That is just as bad as far as mercury levels are concerned.

What about protein content? One can of my tuna is 13 grams per serving with 2.5 servings per can for a total of around 32 grams.

The cans are pretty huge, I think they're about 90 grams each. Usually I make a few sandwiches from one can and eat em throughout the day

I didn't like tuna until I found this kickass tuna burger recpie. My mom always used to make nasty smelling tuna salad that reaked like hell so I never touched it until a week ago.

edit: if anyone wants the recipe, PM me.
