Searched all morning but didn't really get all the information I needed about access points.

Background : I'm running a Netgear 4 port router for the wired network for 3 computers. My mother just recently bought a laptop and needs the freedom to roam around the house. Instead of going all wireless, I think the easiest way would be to either 1.) get a wireless router and configure it to the existing network or 2.) use access points which I have never done before.

What would be the most efficient way to go about setting up a wireless network for my mother? How do access points work? Are they plug and play?

    Thanks.

    Either way should work.

I would personally just go for a wireless router since you would have one unit instead of two. If you were to add an access point, you would just plug it in to an empty port on the router and go from there. Just like a router, the access point will have an IP address that you can log into from a web browser to configure it.

    HTH.

    Cool, thanks.

Any tips on configuring the wireless router to the existing wired network?

    :hs:
