My computer monitor went out, and so I found a used (2008) Insignia 32" lcd tv to use instead. I am using a vga cord. My video card is a Radeon x1300 with updated drivers. Win. 7 installed.

The problem is I can only get 1024X768 as a max. resolution.

Will upgrading the video card fix that, and get me the 1280x1024 res. that I want, or is that all the tv will handle?

1024x768 could be the native resolution of the LCD panel, so you'd be SOL. Can you check the manual (online if you don't have the hard copy) to see what resolution the LCD can handle?

1024x768 is a 4:3 ratio. AFAIK LCD TV's have never been 4:3. Sounds like a driver issue w/ your videocard too me.

I had a similar problem when I switched monitors. A simple driver update fixed it for me.

I have had one of these for about four years. They are out there, just saying...

    32" native probably runs 1366x768

Maximum Resolution 1366 x 768. You are correct.

So I guess that no matter the video card, I will need a newer 32" that handles the res. I want.

All new ones are either 1366x768 (cheap ones) or 1920x1080 (more expensive ones).

Is there any particular reason you want 1280x1024? It's a very strange resolution in regards to aspect ratio.

It is just what I had on my old monitor that I used for 3+ years.

    Old habits.
