    Hi-

I have a bunch of clips i downloaded (in flv format) and need to convert them so virtual dub can read them or my video editing software can read them (I'm going to buy one.. but is powerlink power director 7 or ulead video studio 11 ok for this? is there something better?).

I want to use both the video/audio for some parts, others I want to have just the video and I'll put in a seperate audio, and some I wan to have both the video audio/video AND i want to add other music (ie- some will just be someone talking but i want to add background music)

btw - windows movie maker keeps freezing/crashing on me whenever i try to do something with it

soo.... any software recommendations AND how to convert flv to avi (or a format the above can read) would be great

    thx

Just change the .flv extension to .mpg.

If you're afraid it wouldn't work, copy one of the files into another folder and do it on the copy.

    It works on my computer.

probably depends on the player being used. some ignore the container, some abide by it.

i like Any Video Converter. tie that to a good set of codecs and you can convert to quite a few different formats for free.
