I was reading a article in 4 wheel offroad today about the new 4 wheel steering in the new GMC's. If you ask me, I think it is a load of crap and GM needs to redesign there rack. It's just a added cost and more crap to break. It looks like a good design, it's a Dana 60 axle witch is plenty srtong, but they bent a link while putting it through pretty hard test.

But if GMC would put some thought in there rack design, there trucks might turn worth a damn.
Here is how they compare in turning in a circle:

    Ford Excursion-46.8 ft
    Dodge Ram-46.7 ft
    GMC with out Quadrasteer-46.2 ft
    Tundra- 44.4 ft
    F-150 40.5 ft
    Jeep Grand Cherokee 37.6 Ft
    Altima 37.4 ft
GMC with Quadrasteer option 37.4 ft

it's a big improvement from what it is without it but if you ask me, they just need to put more idea into how there trucks turn. One more thing to break on there trucks and add's more to the cost.

i would hate to think about what my old longbed f-150s turning circle was. That whore took FOREVER.

The lightning is a billion times better. It's as easy to park as my gf's corolla.

    not really :o

Might not be ideal for offroad use, but for maneuverability and towing, it's a hell of an idea. What's wrong with having a full size truck with a turning circle less that an Altima? Also makes a big difference when trying to back up with a trailer attached and it's supposedly more stable at highway speeds as well.

It's the first year that out, they make have some problems with it but hopefully they can get them worked out.

quadrasteer is only available in the big trucks.. i dont think you can get it unless its HD model..

so trying to compare it to a f150 is stupid. because its a much bigger truck than the f150..

not to say that the rack couldnt be improved, there is always room for improvement.. but with quadrasteer, the turning circle is smaller than any other half ton pickup right? so.. how is it bullshit?

saving 19 feet off your turning circle is a pretty badass improvement if you ask me, and yea the option is just one of those "cool" options that you can brag to your truck buddies about.. i doubt many people will ever really need it..

this is true, but I Ford has a decent steering setup without the extra cost of the 4ws. I guess it just how you look at it. It's just one more thing to break if you ask me.

For now yeah. But once they get everything worked out, it theoretically should be as durable as the front end steering if not more so. It's fairly the same set up. Again, for off-roading, I'd choose something other than a pickup truck.

    :nono:

This is turned by a electric motor witch is controlled by a computer.

no manual linking to this at all.

Yeah, but the spindles are still connected to the motor via tie rods. It all depends on what was breaking. If the motor or electronics were failing that's one thing. I was just assuming that by failures you meant tie rods, ball joints, etc.

yes, the rack is set up the same way but is pushed by a electric motor. :dunno: Just seems like to me you're paying for something that should be designed properly in the first place.

With something the length of a full size truck, you're pretty limited in how tight you can make your turning radius. Even without quardasteer, GM trucks have pretty much the same turing radius as the other trucks. They're just trying to improve it.

But it's just an option. It's not like they made it standard on all their trucks and jacked the price up by $5000. If someone wants it they can pay for it, if they don't no biggie.

A lot of people probably thought the same thing about power steering when it first started to appear. "Just another thing to break and go wrong"

Ford has done a pretty good job on there rack. 40 ft isn't bad for stock.
