Picked up some Troy folding battle sights the other day for the M&P15 (I'll post pics later today, on campus right now) and I noticed there is only an adjustment for windage. Is the elevation hiding from me or is it simply not a feature, if so at what range does this become a problem to not be able to adjust the elevation.
I ask because this is my first AR style rifle and because I dont feel like looking it up and it's easier to bug you people

Yeah, but what if you run into an insurgent who's less than 2 inches tall?

I could be wrong so correct me but my understanding is that for .223 out to 300 yards elevation adjustment has very little practical usage.

Is your rear sight as far back as it'll go?

Looks like its in slot 3, you could move it back to slot 1. The lock button will be sitting further back than any slots and over the smooth portion. The whole bottom of the side body does not have to be forward of that smooth portion.

mmk so I managed to move it back into slot 1, was being a little difficult for some reason, and it does lay much farther back towards the handle. Cant really tell much of a difference honestly, but we shall see.

It looks like your castle nut is not staked...

Shoot it in a class, or in any situation where your rifle is run semi-hard and it will come loose, even if it is torqued to spec. The correct procedure is to torque the castle nut, and then stake the end plate.

Gear queers may prefer to use blue loctite instead of staking because it keeps their safe queens pretty, but just letting you know.

.223 is good out to 600. At the 3 gun matches I shoot 300 is a medium range shot and 400-500 is the long. Granted if I needed to shoot something out to 600 I'm loading up the 77gr and consulting the charts for my 600 yard dope for the scope.

Even w/ 55gr ball 300 is not a problem, though to be competitive you will want a 62, 65, or 69 for anything 350 or longer.

That's not true at all. I've used one rifle in three different classes. It did fine, and has no staking on the castle nut. In fact, in the last class, I ran a suppressor the whole time, and had no rifle-related malfunctions.

I'd prefer it to be a little more aggressive like this:
