So I picked up this Toshiba Satellite laptop from a friend. It had been dropped and the screen isn't working anymore. I think the backlight is broken or something. Doesn't really matter though.

So I hooked the computer up to my monitor. It boots up on the monitor (bios screen and Windows XP banner), but once Windows loads (to the user login), the monitor goes black (like it isn't picking up a signal) and you can see the desktop very dimly on the LCD of the laptop. I've triede Fn+F5, but its not working for some reason. What am I missing here?

the driver is directing output to the primary head (which is the LCD panel).

You need to re-direct output to the TV.

You are right. I figured it out. There was a setting in the video card software that would change it. Good to go now! Thanks.
