Well heck, i just got a very odd request from a customer. He has a 62 TR4 and wants to put in a diesel engine + tranny into his car. :wtf:

I'm confident the engine bay will be large enough, but now, WTF kind of engine and tranny?

The only smaller (non-truck) diesel engines i can think of are from Mbenz and old TD/TDI's from vw's.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I wont even ask why, so I agree that over here in North America you are pretty much limited to Mercedes and Volkswagen Diesels. Toyota did offer diesels in there trucks in the eighties (in canada anyways) , also ford had one in the ranger for a while to. Allthough its a non issue since it wouldn't fit , but stay away from late 70's early 80's GM automotive diesels llike the plauge.

BMW had a 2.5L diesel in their early-mid 80s 5 series, which was also licenced to Ford and installed in some Mark VIIs and Continentals.
